I believe you are right, research is a little thin on this. cant help you on a pistol scope, but SAAMI specs and factory loads for 7x57 are at levels that would be perfectly safe in a 93 with proper headspace.

I suspect you're thinking of Spanish mausers, which were still more than capable of handling full power NATO loads, but the CETME round was being introduced in their version of the G3. A Spanish Mauser marked Oviedo 1909 is a M1893, not a 98. Chilean mausers were not rebarreled for the CETME round. Use a lead bullet, or 60% H4895 load down from is incorrect. I have this setup on a M95 Chilean Mauser (7X57) using a Simmons 2X pistol scope and it works great. But years ago I put a fair amount of surpus ammo through it with zero problems. If you decide to go with a scout scope setup a Weaver base for a T/C Contender (92A) will match the contour of the barrel just ahead of the receiver ring almost perfectly. Piece below is about the 7mm-08 but as you can see the author sees little difference between the old Mauser and the newer Remington. Anymore, if I shoot it, I shoot lower level handloads. The 7x57 is a fine old cartridge that will do anything the 7mm-08 will do plus a wee bit more. I have a Chilean M95 Mauser that was converted to 7.62 NATO.
